From: Chris Branagan <slainte -at-> Subject: [WHITNEY-L] family history Date: Sat, 26 Aug 2000 18:15:32 -0400 I have two unrelated questions for the group today. They are: 1. What are the accepted procedures for sharing genealogical information on people who are still alive? I, of course want to protect everyone (my elderly parents as well as my minor children) from fraudulent use of any information I discover, but what is the right way to proceed, without covering up so much that distant cousins are unable to get in touch ? 2. As many of you know I'm following a line of the Maine Whitneys. John and Elinor ? Whitney Benjamin and Jane ? Whitney John and Letty Ford Whitney Benjamin and Mercy Hinkley Whitney Samuel and Lydia Curit Whitney John and Almira Turner Whitney John Carlton and Ella Peaslee John Willard and Madge Daniels Whitney I have not ever been able to find out much about generation 5, Samuel and Lydia, but recently I had a lead that her maiden name was not Curit, but Curate and her father was Stephen Curate, a 1771 immigrant to Boston from France, and her mother was Martha Hern, married 1774. I don't know how to get a start on the Curate family. I've looked at some of the sites that have immigrant ships recorded and haven't found anything so far. Well anyway.......rather than make this any longer, do any of you have any ideas on how I might get a start on verifying that these really are Lydia's parents? Thanks, Carolyn Whitney Branagan
