From: "Esther Mott" <emott6 -at- home.com> Subject: [WHITNEY-L] Abner Whitney, Abel Whitney 1800 Census, Cumberland, ME Date: Sat, 6 Jan 2001 10:06:03 -0800 I'm looking for my ancestor, Abner WHITNEY (John-4, Isaiah-3, Thomas-2, John-1) in the 1800 census. I haven't yet had a chance to look at the actual census, but in the index there is an Abel WHITNEY in Cumberland Co., ME. Abner was certainly in Cumberland Co. by 1810, and very likely by 1800. Abner was born in MA and lived there until moving to ME; I can't find him in MA in 1800, either. I'm thinking that the man in Cumberland Co. recorded as Abel may actually be Abner, unless Abel has already been identified as somebody else -- does anybody know?
