So let me add to the fray. 1. There will be at least 2 in my party. Possibly 4 depending on the time of year. I would love to bring my kids but of course there is school. I am going to try and talk my husband's parents into making the trip so that may be two more. 2. We will fly in and rent a car so anywhere is fine, but as a frequent visitor to Boston, I find being "in city" without a car much easier. But I am only physically challenged by my children and understand other's needs. 3. We should consider alternative meeting places if any of the hotels even consider charging for the space. I and several others are members of the NEHGS and they have meeting places, plus would probably be willing to help with research and perhaps offer a presentation, etc. The Boston library is huge and has many many meeting and conference rooms. Someone there would also probably offer research assistance. They have almost as much genealogical and local history as the NEHGS. Of course there would be no food or beverage included there but ... who cares? 4. I have been to Watertown searching out all things Whitney a couple of times. Believe me, it can be covered in about 45 minutes to an hour. There is Whitney Hill which is all residential now and and park that is named the same. Nothing special, just a neighborhood ball park, etc. There is a school sitting on what my husband and I decided might have been the original John Whitney site. There is a very old cemetery with some names that will be familiar: Browne's, Jone's, Lobdell's, .... the Watertown names. But I don't recall being able to find any Whitneys. But remember that the original settler's grave sites would be just too old to be readable. The names of the streets reflect the names of the people buried in the cemetery, and there is supposed to be a library that was the first lending library in the US and founded by a Stephen Whitney. I have never found the library. But never looked too hard either. Perhaps we can find ourselves a real local expert to give us a better tour. I believe the NEHGS would be the place to start. I will do some inquires there. My husband and I have already drawn and redrawn street maps etc I don't know if I can find them, but I could always re-do them too. Why don't Lyn and Carolyn let me handle the Watertown aspect for now since they have their hands full until the hotel is decided upon. 5. The Mt. Auburn Cemetery is worth a visit and will take longer than all of Watertown together. It was the first "park-garden cemetery" in the world ... as opposed to a "scary-full of ghosts" burial ground. I remember seeing a few Whitney's just from the road's edge. 6. My husband is in the building of hotels business and is currently building one for the University of Boston...Lyn can tell us exactly where that is. I meagerly approached him regarding our reunion and he said it isn't scheduled for occupancy until about Oct of next year. But we might get good rates....????????? That's a "way out there" kind of suggestion. Lyn Legere wrote: > Hi Carolyn, > > You deserve major Kudoos for all your work!!
