From: Paul Nichols <pauli007 -at- pacbell.net> Subject: [WHITNEY-L] WHITNEY, DARIUS???? Date: Sat, 11 Aug 2001 18:33:15 -0700 Hi. Here I am again with a repeat query, but with added information. Been searching for my wifes ggrandfather, without success, for years. He is DARIUS THOMAS WHITNEY. We know he was b in New York about 1835..but thats all we knew. Recently we have gotten assistance from the 1880 census, which says, in part: Census Place: Tipton, Cass, Nebraska Source: FHL Film 1254744 National Archives Film T9-0744 Page 291A Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Darius T. WHITNEY Self M M W 45 NY Occ: Farmer Fa: ME Mo: CT The underlined portions are new to us. We didn't know his father came from Maine and his mother from Connecticut. Additionally, and this is the giveaway that it is him, are the first wife and children, as follows: Catherine WHITNEY Wife F M W 39 OH Occ: Keeping House Fa: VA Mo: OH William WHITNEY Son M S W 15 IA Occ: Works On Farm Fa: NY Mo: OH Jessie WHITNEY Dau F S W 3 NE Fa: NY Mo: OH Minnie WHITNEY Dau F S W 11M NE Fa: NY Mo: OH Does this information strike a bell with any of you out there? By the way. He and his last wife (Mary E Glidden)are buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs, Co. Thanks for any help. Paul of San Diego
