From: <mjwhitney -at- earthlink.net> Subject: [WHITNEY-L] I apologize profusely Date: Tue, 25 Jun 2002 00:13:15 -0700 I think the List email is protected, but I had a number of list members in my address book -- automatically added when I would send direct responses on something or other -- and I've just been through a several-day siege from a Trojan virus. As soon as I became aware of it, I deleted all names in my address file, but I do know that several of my family members received emails from my address that I didn't send, and this thing got past my VirusScan. After I was aware that my son, whose only e-mail messages had come from me -- he recently moved and is on a new account -- had gotten infected, I removed the VirusScan and ran my older program, Dr. Solomon's anti-virus program, and it immediately identified my visitor as a Trojan - del26, in 3 files called wnad with 3 different dot extensions. Two of them I deleted at once, the third was an execute file and could not be deleted. I had to have someone come in who knew how to fight dirty. The McAfee site lists several Trojans with del, but all with numbers other than 26, but my Dr. Solomon is from 1997 or 1998, so this must be an older one. I dearly hope no one on the List was infected, and I'm very sorry if I caused anyone a problem. Now that the horse is out of the barn, though, I've cancelled out the feature that automatically adds emails. Again, I'm sorry, and I hope that if anyone was infected, this info helps them get rid of the thing. Merry
