From: "Christopher Barttels" <cbarttels -at- gohighspeed.com> Subject: [WHITNEY-L] Lucinda Whitney possible connection to Whitney/Brockway Date: Sun, 28 Jul 2002 13:35:38 -0700 Lucinda Whitney married Ambrose Potter, 14 Jan 1817, in Orwell, Rutland (now Addison), VT. Ambrose, born in Rose, Franklin, MA, 17 Oct 1793, was the son of Baldwin and Rebecca (McCrellis) Potter. Ambrose descends from William Potter (hanged in New Haven in 1662). The marriage for Ambrose and Lucinda is given in his pension file for the War of 1812. No parents or any information regarding Lucinda's family has been previously discovered by me. The only thing I do know is that she is according to the census records of 1850, 60 and 70, she was born in Vermont about 1798. A few months ago, I received some interesting data from Ms. Jeanette Grosvenor of Chardon, OH. She is a descendant of Baldwin Potter Jr., brother of the above mentions Ambrose. According to Ms. Grosvenor, Baldwin Jr., married Jerusha Whitney. She believes this Jerusha to be the daughter of Benjamin Whitney and Sukey Badger, and Benjamin the son of Benjamin and Jerusha (Brockway) Whitney. >From what I have on the children of Ambrose and Lucinda Potter, the above information leads me to believe there was a close relationship between Lucinda and Jerusha Whitney (whether it's sister, cousin or niece/aunt, I'm not sure). Ambrose and Lucinda's first child was Hiram W., born probably around Batavia, Genesee, NY about 1830. The second child was a girl named Pernell C., born about 1834. Sometime between the 1830 and 1840 censuses, Ambrose and Lucinda went to Burton Twp, Geauga, OH. This is probably where Pernell C. was born. An interesting note to this is that Benjamin & Jerusha (Brockway) Whitney's daughter Pernell (or Parnal), was living in Burton Twp, Geauga, OH at the time with her husband, Thaddeus Bradley. The third child was another girl named Jerusha, born about 1838 in either Geauga co., or LaGrange co., Indiana. Jerusha seems to be a rather familiar name in the Whitney line noted above. The last child, was my great3-grandmother, Melvina A. (Arvilla if I read the census correctly), born almost suredly in LaGrange co., Indiana. Would be most interested in hearing any opinions or help in tying this all together. Did brother's Ambrose and Baldwin Jr. marry sisters' Lucinda and Jerusha? Christopher Barttels Dayton, WA
