From: R R Kyser <sorryken -at-> Subject: [WHITNEY-L] Ellen of Broome, NY; Abby of Crawford, PA Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2002 14:21:08 -0500 This couple is buried in the Harpur Cemetery, Town of Colesville, Broome Co., N.Y.: Warren L. Blakeslee Dec. 5, 1880 Ae 44y 8m 20d Ellen Whitney Mar. 17, 1922 Wife of Warren L. Blakelsee Mother That's a long widowhood! I don't see Ellen among the grandchildren of Joshua Whitney Jr. in Marjory Hinman's book on Binghamton. I wonder if she's related to this branch in some other way. Over in Crawford Co., Pa. (where another, contemparaneous Warren Blakeslee lived) I found the following notice: Marriage of Henry Watson and Abby Whitney: Henry Watson of Venango Twp., Crawford Co., Waggon maker, born Cambridge Twp., Crawford Co., son of Thomas Watson and Mary Ann Watson, m. by Rev. E W Beebe of Washington [Twp.], Erie Co., Pa., in a Presbyterian ceremony at Washington, Erie Co., Pa., 11 Jan. 1853 Abby Whitney, dau. of Jonathan Whitney and Lydia Whitney; white; [dates of certification and registration cut off]. I don't see Abby in our databases, though there is the remarkable coïncidence of an Abby born to a Warren Whitney and Anne Watson at about the same period as this Abby. A side note: Crawford is the only Pennsylvania county with a thicket of classically-named townships-- Athens, Sparta, Troy and Rome-- strongly suggesting the county was settled by New Yorkers. Cheers, Ron Kyser
