From: ALLAGREEN -at- aol.com Subject: [WHITNEY-L] The Maria Whitney who md. Lt. Ebenezer Davis -- to Rindge, NH Date: Mon, 28 Oct 2002 11:53:52 EST Dear WRG. In playing with my newly acquired set of all the MA VR's on CD, I came across the marriage of the above in the Littleton VR's in the section entitled Miscellaneous. Whitney16 shows this marriage with no sourcing, although there is, I will hasten to admit, an entry in the Pepperell VR's that tells of the same. Also in the Pepperell pages is the birth of a Meria Whitney to Joseph4 and Abigail Nutting Whitney (birth, 30 May 1746, marriage 26 Nov 1777) [age 31! -- AEG] It is easy to make the assumption, when there is only one Maria Whitney born in this town, and only one Maria Whitney married in this town(?), that it is the same Maria Whitney. For instance, the Littleton VR says that both Lt. Davis AND Maria Whitney were of Littleton. Did the family of Joseph4 remove to that community from Pepperell and the entry in the Pepperell records made because they had been previously residents there? The Littleton VR also says that they removed to Rindge, NH. I would hope that this posting would stimulate either the WRG member who submitted the data that included this marriage to Jon Aston for inclusion, or a WRG member with a strong background in investigating the Rindge, NH Whitneys might help shed some light on this problem. Happy Hunting! Allan E. Green
