I have seen no indication that Joseph-4 WHITNEY removed to Littleton. He seems to have spent the last 40 years of his life in Pepperell, where he died in 1786. Similarly, I can't find any of his children in Littleton, but most of them removed to various towns in New Hampshire (but not to Rindge). Lt. Ebenezer DAVIS was born 20 Oct 1743, Concord, son of Simon and Silence (BULKELEY) DAVIS, so his age was appropriate for a bride born in 1746. He and Maria had five children born in Rindge, in 1778, 1780, 1781, 1784, and 1790. The last child was born when Maria-5 WHITNEY was 44, not an unreason- able age for that. The absence of any other Maria WHITNEY old enough to marry in 1777, together with these facts, and the naming of the third son as *Joseph* DAVIS (the first was Simon, the second Ebenezer), make this identi- fication very likely. The absence of any probate for Joseph-4 WHITNEY in either Middlesex or Worcester Counties, MA, makes this a bit hard to prove directly. I would want to check out deeds and the families of Joseph-4's other children to hunt for such proof. Regards, Robert Mr. Robert L.
