From: "Jo Hogle" <jhogle -at-> Subject: Re: [WHITNEY-L] Junk email Date: Thu, 26 Dec 2002 16:36:25 -0600 References: <> As a listowner of 10 mailing lists at Rootsweb, I can assure you that people attempt to send spam and junk mail to mailing lists very frequently. Occasionally my personal mailbox can have as many as 75 pieces of spam mail a day that Rootsweb has filtered from the lists, but the copies are always sent to the list owners, just in case there is an error and it should be sent to the list. Rootsweb does an excellent job of screening but occasionally something leaks through. The list owners have no control over this and if you are concerned that screening filters need to be "tweaked" then you probably need to contact the administrators at Rootsweb. Whether it is simply junk mail or a virus, all of need to take responsibility as much as we can for our own computers and usage. Make sure you have good ant-virus software and be alert. Don't open something that doesn't feel right. That is the advice I give all new members of my mailing lists and nobody has been stung yet.
