I have not been in touch with Lary Tracy for a little while, but can tell you that he has made tremendous progress on his book on Maine and Canadian Whitneys. As for my project with the elusive Josiah Whitney, I have made some progress. For those who are curious about this project, my latest project update is posted on the reuion page of the Whitney web site. Anyway, at the encouragement of Larry Tracy, I have contacted some Bath, Maine resources. I have been successful in gathering much information on the family of Josiah's son Eliab. In addition, I have been working with a genealogist in Nova Scotia. As a result, I have been able to reconstruct the family of Eliab Whitney with his first wife, Lydia Butterfield. In addition, today I have discovered that Josiah's son Knowles (Noals in the F.C. Pierce book) was also living in Nova Scotia with his wife Sarah and daughter Lydia in 1804. So, progresss is being made, although slowly. It is very difficult with Maine and Canadian records. As Mike has said, I was headed for Massachuseets for Thanksgiving for the first time in 21 years. NOT!! My son is a recruit in the Marine Corps at Parrris Island, SC. We got a call on Nov 20 that he was in the Naval Hospital in Beaufort, SC with pneumonia, blood clots in his arm, a pulmonary embolism, and a 30 pound weight loss. So, we went south rather than north. I am glad to report that he is doing well now, but will probably be medically discharged because of the anticoagulation needed for the blood clots. At least I won't be sending mail to Baghdad! Around the holiday, I was going to collect information on a couple of branches of my Whitney line that moved to Mass., but that will wait for another time. I hope all in the group enjoyed their Thanksgiving holiday, and also hope that some of those brick walls out there will be browken down in the coming year. Best wishes for the coming holidays.
