My Whitney Line

Edit My Whitney Line

Hello, my name is Rick Woosley, and I am a descendant of Elvira Elizabeth Whitney (1832-1901) and Charles Edward Gove (1839-1920), who were married in 1862, through their son, Frank Atwood Gove, Sr. Elvira Elizabeth Whitney is my Great-Great-Great Grandmother. I have only recently begun to delve into my family history and am still on the Gove side...I have not been able as of yet to look further into the Whitney side, although from what I understand I am related to Eli Whitney, the inventor of the cotton gin. I found this website quite by accident, due to another search I was conducting on wikipedia, and I was immediately excited because I have become quite obssessed with my family lineage and history. I do know that Elvira Elizabeth Whitney was Charles Edward's first wife, and died during their marriage. He then married her relative, Emma Frances Whitney, in 1902. Elvira Elizabeth Whitney was a daughter of Charles Whitney (1806-1851) and Adeline Strong (1808-?). I believe I may be a descendant of the Massachusetts branch of the Whitney family, as my Gove relatives were in Massachusetts almost from the time it was founded, and stayed in the same area of Massachusetts literally up to the present day. There are still Gove relations in the Peabody/Lynn/Nahant/Swampscott/Beverly area as of 2007, and the earliest record I have of a Gove ancestor in Massachusetts was from the 1640's. Also, from what I have found so far, I have traced Elvira Elizabeth's ancestry back to Zachariah Whitney (1711-1819), who married Sarah Boynton (1719-1775), however I have done no research of any generations past Elvira Elizabeth, so I don't have other descendants' names or anything of that nature as of yet. The only thing I did was find the parents of Elvira Elizabeth, then her father's parents, his father's, etc. That's as far as I have gotten, as I am still researching other lines on my Gove side. I am joining this site to hopefully help me find out more information on my family tree, and other Whitney connections I may have. I do believe that more than one time the Whitney family is in my family tree, as I believe they may have also married into other families that I am descended from, also on that Gove side. In any event, anything that I can find will be a great help! I just want to thank you in advance for not only putting this site together, but also send out thanks to anyone who may be willing to help me or share with me information on my family tree, and help me make connections to my Whitney lineage!
