Mary Whitney

Robert:

That's my fault. I ran a test yesterday which overwrote a couple of the pages and placed just a couple of people on the pages. I then started up the whole process, which would have corrected the issue, but it bombed out at Esther, so all names after that have not been updated, including the couple of names which were in my test run. Simply look at the previous revision until I can get it corrected.

Children Update

Robert:

I re-ran the script yesterday - all of the children have been updated on the name pages, including the Mary Whitney page I had messed up.

Plantagenet Ancestry Edits

Robert:

You made several edits to Archive:Plantagenet Ancestry, such as spelling corrections, etc. Were these changes to correct Adrian's transcription - correcting our version so it matches the source, or were these changes correcting the source itself? If Adrian simply transcribed incorrectly, then I think these changes are appropriate, but if the spellings are as they are in the source, I think we need to leave our version reflecting the source.

Children

Robert:

I thought I had changed the "children" bot to only gather data and to not make any changes today, then set it off running. Unfortunately, it appears that it made a mess of things. I will work on it this evening and should have things back to normal by tomorrow.

Mystery Girls

Robert:

I agree with your analysis of the 4 Mystery Whitney Girls. I agree that a page should be created. My only suggestion would be to add a note section describing how your made the identification and any problems with it, so readers will understand.

Genealogy questions

Hi,

My name is Esther Smith. I am related to the Whitney line through Betsey WHITNEY. I have done my genealogy with my fathers help. We have gotten quite far in many lines and finding your Whitney research website has been wonderful!

I found it back when you were still developing it, but at that point was just going to college and falling in love and getting married and all those things, so I didn't take much time out then for genealogy, aside from a genealogy class I took at BYU-Hawaii in 2000.

I am 27 years old and come from a family of 9 children. My father loves genealogy. He used to do all his genealogy by hand on yellow ledger pages and stuff before we ever had a computer (as a family). He got me involved in helping him on genealogy back when I was 5 years old. All of my sibblings help do the genealogy too.

Our genealogy is getting huge and we need to find a way to combine all the various GEDCOM files together. Everytime any of us tries to - our computer fries and we loose everything. And I have a pretty extensive computer that I do Web and Graphic design through.

I know that this is getting long and you are wondering where I am going with it. It is just that I have read over old archives and such on here back from 1999 and forward and many of them have said that you and Tim Doyle are the ones who made all of this possible and the ones who "Know your stuff". So, I am contacting you for two reasons.

  1. 1. I am at a dead end on Betsey Whitney's first husband Aaron Davis, who I believe I am related through, and Susannah GERRY.
  1. 2. I am wondering if my father and I might be able to put our heads together with you and/or Tim Doyle and make another one of these web projects for other Surnames aside from just the Whitney side.

Just to give you a genealogical idea of who I am down from Betsey Whitney, here you go:

Israel WHITNEY + Susannah GERRY

Betsey WHITNEY + Aaron DAVIS

Narcisi HAZEN (aka. Nelson DAVIS) + Appoline (Pauline) CHAMPEAU

Apoline (Pauline) HAZEN + Louis LAMIRANDE

Agnes Marie LAMIRANDE + Fredrick Rapheal PARMENTIER

Phyllis May PARMENTIER + Kenneth William VERHAGEN

Paul Kenneth VERHAGEN + Merrily HILL

Esther Michelle VERHAGEN (Smith) ***Me***

I have an e-mail that I can send as an attachment or copy and paste, if you are interested on all the current information we have regarding Aaron Davis and what we are still seeking on him.

I would truly appreciate if you could help us in either or both areas! If you are unable to do so however, please direct me to whom I should contact and how.

Please e-mail me at [email protected]

Thank you so much in advance! Esther Smith

Incorrect Edits

Robert:

I don't think the edits made by User talk:Bernhardt are correct, and it doesn't look like he's going to undo them himself. Should we? This is why I haven't patrolled your comment to him.

Rob Roy

Robert:

You may want to address the new user Rob Roy. His claimed descent is through Alice, supposed daughter of Joshua-2 Whitney, and I see that you have a comment on Joshua's page indicating that Alice was not his daughter.

Joshua Whitney

I have removed my line from my page, and will put my alternate line up in a few days. You've given me much to chew on, and the new goal is to have all resolved within my database before the end of the month. I will then post the updates on my web site: Roy Genealogy Research

Heritage Quest

Robert -

Hmmmm..I have worked very closely with my hometown (Clinton, Iowa) librarian, she gave me their HQ user name and password (I had to look her in the eye and swear I wouldn't share). I don't know if that version is different from the free version. In order to see 1830-1850 you need to know the name, county, township, page and then use the browse feature which is found near the top of the page. I copy the WRG index, take it to the WVU library and doublecheck that against the ancestry library edition and then use HQ at home. HQ has six databases: books, PERSI, Freeman's bank, Rev. war, census and one other I can't remember...can you see those in the free version?

Carol

John Whitneys

Robert:

Adrian pointed out that John Whitney of Gorsington had to have been b. bef. 1450 as his son Eustace was born at least by 1475 as his son was of age when his father died in 1525. Because of this, John Whitney of Gorsington was too old to be a son of Robert and Elizabeth (Vaughn) Whitney. I have therefore moved John of Gorsington up one generation, now making him a "(perhaps)" son of Sir Eustace Whitney by either his first wife Jennet Russell or his second wife Jane Clifford. Although Henry Austin Whitney states that he obtained Gorsington through his wife, we find it intriguing that John was of Cliffor and could possibly have been a son of second wife Jane Clifford. If he was the eldest son by this wife, he could perhaps have inherited lands in Clifford through her as well.

In doing this work, I attempted to find the source of the son John in the family of Robert and Elizabeth (Vaughn) Whitney. The only place I could find it is in Archive:Golden Grove. This source states that this son John was "of Bachrwyd", which we had not noticed before. It is interesting - could he have been the ancestor of Family:Whitney, Thomas (?-1589) in whose will he mentions "Thomas ap John Whittney"?

Room behing the Chimney

Robert:

Earlier this week, I asked if you remembered the will which referred to rooms behind a chimney. I have now located it, although it has nothing to do with the subject I was researching.
