Edit My Whitney Line

I'm researching the ancestry of my great grandmother Ollie Virginia Whitney Long Camp. Her parents were Oliver Perry (O.P. usually altho often he reverses the first and middle name too) Whitney and Cordelia Moser. Oliver Perry was born around 1850 probably in Illinois or Ohio. His father was probably James Whitney (d. abt 1850, the only known reference to his name is on O.P.'s death certificate) and his mother Ruth (unsure -- Maybe Light) Whitney Galladay/Golladay.

James is believed to have died about the time of Oliver Perry's birth during a journey west, most likely traveling from Clermont County, Ohio, to Clark County, IL. There is a Whitney family living with Peter and Hepsibeth (Whitney) Light in Clermont County in 1850 that includes an older James, a David and a second Hespibeth. I believe these families are connected to James Whitney and his wife Ruth.

Ruth appears without Oliver or James in 1850 living in Clark County IL with George W. Campbell and Rachel (Whitney) Campbell. (GW Campbell died the same time frame as James, GW and Rachell married in Clermont County. Rachel later married Michael Surface and moved to Missouri.)

Ruth then married Joseph Golladay in 1853 and moved to Warren County, IA (1860 and 1870 census), Phelps County, NE (1880 census -- J. Golladay is dead by then) and finally to Buchanan County, MO in 1896 or so until her death in abt. 1909.

Oliver Perry Whitney is listed as Oliver Golliday in Warren County in 1860 Census, unlocated in 1870, Smith County, KS in 1875, Phelps County, NE in 1880 and from 1885 until death in 1914 in Burr Oak, Doniphan County, Kansas. Despite similarities in their names and those of the children, we've found no connection to the "other" Oliver Whitney's in Doniphan County at the same time (Oliver Hope Cromwell Whitney or Oliver Cromwell Whitney).

Oliver's children are Mary Pearl Whitney Fink, Rebecca Tabitha Whitney Crippen, Josephine Whitney Steward,Sarah Jane Whitney Berkey, Nancy Ann (Anna) Whitney Phillips, Frank Perry Whitney, and Ollie Virginia Whitney. Ollie's children were Walter Evertton Long and Sherman Perry Long.
