Welcome

Brendan:

Welcome to the Whitney Research Group website, and thank you for adding in your lineage. As I try to always do, I've looked up your Whitney ancestors in our database and have added links to your lineage to these pages, so you can quickly see what information we have on them. I noticed that our database did not show Andrew Whitney's father to have been Silas Whitney, as you had listed. I did see that the book Archive:Memoirs of Worcester County, Massachusetts, Volume II, Part 2 had the lineage as you had listed though. I changed your lineage to match what we have as Andrew's line, and I encourage you to investigate that line and compare it to your own. If you disagree, we can discuss further. I am going to ask our resident expert Robert L. Ward to look at this again as well - perhaps he can shed more light.

Edits

Brendan:

The information that we have on the website here consists of decades of research by a large number of members, as well as careful analysis by Robert L. Ward. There is almost certainly a good reason why we've adjusted the lineage to what we have, but we may need to dig into the mailing list archives or the page histories to determine why. We're still converting our data to these pages and adding source citations.

As far as Charles Andrew Whitney goes, yes, please do create a page for him! We're still growing our collection daily and we'd love to have the information for him.

Why did I remove Martha? Simply because I copied the lineage from another descendants lineage listing (it's easier than trying to manually add in all of the links each time). They didn't have her surname, so we should add it back to yours and to theirs as well! I'll go do that now.

Robert L. Ward's Reply About Andrew

Brendan:

Robert L. Ward responded to my query about why our family group pages do not agree with the book source about Andrew Whitney's parents. To read his reply, check here.

Hi Brendan I stumbled upon this today. I think you posted over a year ago! My Great Grandfather Charles Dana Whitney from Millbury (insurance agent, still a Whitney agency in Millbury) had one son, Raymond Cyrus Whitney, MD, who practiced out of New Bedford. He married Dorothy Belknap and had 6 children, Priscilla, Eleanor, my father Cyrus Belknap, Jeremy ( also an eye Doctor in New Bedford), Martha and Suzanne. They had over 20 children. My brother is Cyrus Belknap the 2nd and his son the third! My Uncle Jerry and Aunt Priscilla both still live in the New Bedford area. Post for additional info! Sincerely Ellen Whitney
