Welcome!

Tom,

Welcome to the Whitney Research Group. Anything you can add or correct with regard to the Irish part of the Whitney family would be most appreciated. I look forward to seeing what you might be able to contribute. We have very little data on that bunch, and are anxious to get more.

The Latest on Whitney of Newpass

Tom,

Thanks for providing more information on the Whitneys of Newpass, co. Westmeath.

The latest information you left on my User_Talk: page is confusing. It seems to say that Col. Thomas Whitney married secondly a different lady than our records show, and that he had a son Shuckborough, a son Thomas, and also a son Thomas Shuckborough, as well as two sons Boleyn! It does provide more detailed information about some individuals, but their relationship to each other is not clear to me.

Have I misunderstood what it says? What would you like me to do with that data?

By the way, Col. Thomas Whitney's page is at Family:Whitney, Thomas (s1644-1712). It is scheduled to be renamed, as you can see from the note at the top.

More Info

Tom:

Go to Whitneys of Ireland#Whitneys of County Westmeath, and by the word "Notes" click on "show". I don't know if you have seen all of this or not, but I thought I'd call it to your attention.

I've made quite a few changes to the Col. Thomas Whitney page and those of his sons. I think I have correctly reflected the new data you supplied.

No one seems to have realized that Boleyn Whitney could have been a nephew of Robert Adair or his wife Jane Forster by virtue of one of them being a half-sibling of either Col. Thomas Whitney or his wife Maria Boleyn. They could thus not share a surname if their connection was via their mother and two husbands.

Half-Siblings

Tom:

To clarify, the half-sibling relationship would be something like this. Perhaps Maria Boleyn's mother, Jane Graves, had either a previous or subsequent marriage to an Adair or Forster, by whom she could have been the mother of Robert Adair or of his wife Jane Forster. Alternatively, perhaps Col. Thomas Whitney's mother, name unknown, could have had a previous or subsequent marriage to an Adair or Forster, by whom she could have been the mother of Robert Adair or of his wife Jane Forster. That would make either Robert Adair or Jane Forster the half-brother or half-sister of either Col. Thomas Whitney or Maria Boleyn, and thus the uncle and aunt (of the half blood, and one of them by marriage) of Boleyn Whitney.

Some work looking into the Adair and Forster families seems in order to eliminate some or all of these possibilities, or to establish one of them. It could also shed some light on the maternity of Col. Thomas Whitney!
