+Frederick Clifton Pierce gives information on his [[Archive:Pierce, Page 254#P1836|children]], [[Archive:Pierce, Page 437#P3849|grandchildren]], and [[Archive:Pierce, Page 597#P7069|great-grandchildren]].  He had one son Eli<sup>8</sup> WHITNEY and three daughters.  His son Eli<sup>8</sup> WHITNEY had one son Eli<sup>9</sup> WHITNEY and two daughters.  His grandson Eli<sup>9</sup> WHITNEY had no sons and seven daughters, so the surname WHITNEY is extinct in the descendants of the inventor.
