-Samuel may or may not be his correct name.  There is a marriage recorded in Hamilton County> Ohio for "Samuel" Whitney and Rachel Miller on 25 April 1835.  It does not seem that this could be a coincidence.  See "Ohio Marriages 1800-1858", although it has been claimed by some of Rachels Husted descendants that his name was Daniel c. Whitney
+Samuel is his correct name.  A marriage was recorded in Hamilton County> Ohio for "Samuel" Whitney and Rachel Miller on 25 April 1835.  It does not seem that this could be a coincidence.  See "Ohio Marriages 1800-1858", although it has been claimed by some of Rachels Husted descendants that his name was Daniel c. Whitney However 1840 only a year after his death, Mary Whitney Anderson, the daughter of William Warren Whitney (1786-1850) and Nancy Jane Simpson, named her first son Samuel Whitney Anderson. This could not be just a coincidence. It circumstantially proves that his name was Samuel, together with the fact that Samuel named his son, William Warren Whitney, after his father.
