Enlisted, age 19, as a musician in Company K, New York 76th Infantry Regiment on 1 Nov 1861, at Oneonta, NY. Mustered in 27 Nov 1861. Re-enlisted 9 Feb 1864, Culpeper, VA. Transferred 1 Jul 1864 to Co. H, musician. Mustered out on 28 Jan 1865. Transferred 28 Jan 1865 to Company H, New York 147th Infantry Regiment. Cook at Division Headquarters, veteran volunteer. Eyes blue, hair light, complexion light, height 5' 7", blacksmith.

Whitney, aged 77, of Utica, died Sunday, February 11 at her home, after a long illness. She was born in Richfield Springs on January 8, 1886, the daughter of Harrison and Emma (Layton) Whitney. For a number of years she taught school in the Richfield Springs area and then in the Main Street School at Whitesboro. She had been a resident of Utica for the past 20 years. There are no known survivors. Funeral services were held at 11 a. m. on February 13 at the Lankton Townsend Cronk Funeral Home in Utica, with the Rev. Arthur Brindisi of Westminster Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be later this year in Lakeview Cemetery in Richfield Springs."
