He was a merchant. Besides dwelling in Poundridge and Lewisboro, they have lived in Norwalk and Wolcottville, CT, one year each; and, in 1867, settled in Waterbury, CT, where they resided in Nov 1874. He was then a member of the firm of J. F. Rusco & Company, 3 Hotchkiss Block, Waterbury. He enlisted at Wolcottville, 4 Aug 1862, in Company C, 19th Regiment, Connecticut Volunteer Infantry, afterward the 2d Connecticut Heavy Artillery; and was discharged 26 May 1865, at Mower Hospital, Philadelphia, PA, having been promoted to the grade of corporal, and taken part in the battles of North Anna, Tolopotomy Creek, and Cold Harbor, 1 Jun 1864, where he was permanently disabled by a gunshot wound in the left elbow.
