He is probably the same as Joshua6 Whitney, son of [[Family:Whitney, Joshua (1757-1797)|Joshua5 and Dorothy (Knowlton) Whitney]]. That man is of the right approximate age and birth state. Furthermore, a [[Family:Whitney, Joseph (1795-1871)]] appears in the 1820 census separated from Joshua by 10 families. This last is likely to be Joseph6, a brother.
