Michigan was part of the Northwest Territory from 1796 to 1800. From 1800 to 1803, it was considered both in the Indiana Territory and the Northwest Territory. From 1803 to 1805, it was included in the Indiana Territory. It became a territory in 1805, and a state in 1837. U.S. Census records for Michigan are available for the following years:
