Henry Clinton Whitney was born in Standish, Maine 25 Jan 1844. He enlisted 30 Apr 1861 at Portland, ME, in Co. E, 10th Maine Infantry. He also served in Co. A, 1st Maine Cavalry and Co. K 1st District of Columbia Cavalry. Prior to enlistment, he resided at Edes Falls, Naples, ME, where he was a farmer. After final discharge in 1864, he resided in Standish until 1873. He then removed at various times to Boston, MA; Dover, NH; Revere, MA; and Boston again, where he was a house painter. He died 13 Jun 1931, Melrose, MA, and never married. There is a sworn statement by Waldo H. Chandler, Notary Public. He says that he personally saw a Family Register showing information that Henry C. Whitney was born 25 Jan 1844. His father's name is Abel, and his mother's maiden name is Sarah Cole. It also contains the dates of birth of five other children. The sheet and writing appeared of and ancient date. This was notarized 3 March 1914.
