Maude Weber died Saturday, July 7, at 104.

Mrs. Weber was born Dec. 5, 1896, in Covington, Ohio. Her parents were E. Bond Whitney and Emma Oda Whitney, descendants of cotton-gin inventor Eli Whitney, said her daughter, Doris Weber Elliott of Williamsburg.

Mrs. Weber's parents were both long-lived, her father dying at 90 and her mother at 99, Mrs. Elliott said.

She had three sisters and one brother.

She completed school in Covington, then attended Earlham College in Richmond, Ind., and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Before her marriage, she taught in a one-room school at Upper Sandusky, Ohio, where she met and married Clarence William Weber. They were married Jan. 1, 1920, and celebrated 58 years together before his death in 1978.

After raising her family, she returned to teaching in Marion and Waldo, Ohio. Upon retiring, she and her husband moved to Tucson, Ariz. After her husband's death, she moved to Williamsburg in 1988 to be near her daughter. She resided at Chambrel until her recent move to Tandem Health Care in Williamsburg.

Mrs. Weber's joy was teaching in the school systems and in Sunday school classes. Her hobby was reading and presenting book reviews throughout Ohio and Tucson. She also served as president of the Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs for several years.

In addition to her daughter, Doris, and her husband, James E. Elliott, she is survived by a son, Dr. Robert Weber and his wife, Jeanne, of Tucson; four grandchildren, Amy Hamil of Tucson, Robert Thomas Weber of Spokane, Wash., James W. Elliott of Yorktown and Lynne Whitney Adams of Wilmington, N.C.; and nine great-grandchildren. One grandchild, Steven Weber, preceded her in death.

A celebration of her life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Williamsburg United Methodist Church on Jamestown Road.

Memorial gifts may be sent to a favorite charity.
