(2) 1844 as a plural wife Mormon Bishop Newel K. Whitney, who d. 1850; m. (3) 10 Oct. 1852 as a plural wife Daniel Hanmer Wells. Wells was a general in the Mormon "Nauvoo Legion," a close friend of Brigham Young, and a high officer in the Mormon church. Emmeline was a leader of Mormon women and Utah feminist. He married first at Lisbon Falls, 1 January 1812 SARAH WHITNEY, born 22 February 1792, died 20 February 1845, daughter of Abraham and Aphia (Coombs) Whitney. He married second 19 October 1845 BETSY CLOUGH, died 18 September 1873, daughter of Jeremiah and Mehitable (Strang) Clough of Lewiston. William Woodard was a farmer at Lisbon until 1834 when he moved to Lewiston. In the War of 1812 he served as a sergeart He was selectman in Lisbon and a justice of the peace in Lisbon and Lewiston. For sixty-five years he was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. He was an anti-slavery advocate. Children by first marriage, born at Lisbon: 56. i. Moses, b. 22 Oct. 1812. 57. ii. WHITING, born 16 Jan. 1853, died 1916, daughter of Leonard and Frances (Whitney) Whiting of Castine, Maine. Edwin Cox Woodward graduated from Bowdoin College in 1870. He was a teacher for fifteen years, then a chemist with American Smelting Company at Leadville, Col. Child, born at Leadville: i. Elizabeth Cox, m. Leroy McWilliams. She was a member of the DAR.
