11 Nov 1734, Timothy Metcalf, John Guile, and Nathaniel Ward, and Pelatiah Man, all selectmen of Wrentham, reported that Josiah Whitney is "so far wanting of reason and understanding as not to be capeabel of managing his owne affairs."

20 Jul 1840, Theophilus P. Kendall of Boston, merchant, petitioned to be granted administration on the estate of Thomas Whitney, a mariner on board the United States frigate Columbia, who had died at sea in August last [i.e. Aug 1839].
20 Jul 1840, Theophilus P. Kendall, merchant, as principal, with Wm. Lawrence, trader, and Joseph Sargent, tinman, as sureties, all of Boston, posted bond of $300, and Theophilus P. Kendall was appointed administrator of the estate of Thomas Whitney, late of Boston, mariner, on board the United States frigate Columbia, deceased, intestate.
18 Jan 1841, Theophilus P. Kendall presented and swore to the inventory, consisting of $133.55 in cash received from the United States Treasury, being the balance of his wages due said deceased as a seaman on board the U.S. frigate Columbia.
