Petersham, Mass., Oct. 18, 1764; m. there Sept. 6, 1787, Lydia BRYANT; b. in 1767; d. May 27, 1800, in Springfield, Mass. Hon. Lemuel WHITNEY was born in Petersham, Mass. he moved to Vermont in 1785, and first resided in Newfane, where he was sheriff of the county and one of the prominent men in that part of the state. By trade he was a silversmith. In 1790 he moved to Brattleboro, and at once took a leading part in the affairs of that place. For ten years he was representative; from 1801 to 1824 clerk of the Supreme Court; 1801 to 1820 clerk of the county; 1817 to 1828 judge of probate; 1790 to 1847 justice of the peace.
