Joseph Jones (Mary Whitney4, Jonathan3, Benjamin2, John1). son of Joseph and Mary4 (Whitney) Jones, was born 29 Sep 1737, Mendon, MA,[1] and died 22 Aug 1799, Charleston, SC.[2]

Joseph married, 28 Dec 1763, Milford, MA, Ruth Nelson, daughter of Nehemiah and Hannah (Sheffield) Nelson. She was born 30 Oct or 10 Nov 1743, Mendon, MA, and died 16 Aug 1825, Providence, RI, aged 82 years.

They lived before 1790 at Charleston, SC.

i. Alexander Jones, b. 8 Aug 1764; d. 19 Mar 1840, Providence, RI; m. 28 Jan 1790, Charleston, SC, Mary Farquhar. He graduated from Brown College, 1782.
ii. David Jones, b. 24 Mar 1767, Mendon, MA; d. 20 Oct 1841, Milford, MA; m.(1) (int. 25 Dec 1790, Milford, MA) Polly Strong "of Williamsburgh, Pa."; m.(2) (int. 28 Sep 1833, Milford, MA) Mary Chapin. They lived before 1833 at Homer, NY, and in 1833 at Boston, MA.
iii. Nathaniel Jones, b. 22 Mar 1769, Mendon, MA; d. 22 May 1808, Charleston, SC; m. Jane Field "of South Carolina".
iv. Lucinda Sophronia Jones, b. 4 Jun 1771, Mendon, MA; d. 15 Sep 1776, Milford, MA.
v. Joseph Jones, b. 17 May 1773, Mendon, MA; d. 14 Jul 1791, Milford, MA, in his 19th year.
vi. Hannah Jones, b. 28 Jun 1775, Mendon, MA; d. 16 Aug 1836; m. (int. 25 Jul 1797, Milford, MA) William Dabney "of South Carolina".
vii. Lucinda Jones, b. 26 Aug 1778, Mendon, MA; d. 12 Jan 1852; m. 21 Sep 1800, Milford, MA, John King "of Providence".
viii. Betsey Jones, b. 1 Nov 1780; d. 13 Nov 1800, Milford, MA.
ix. Nancy Jones, b. 9 Mar 1783; d. 25 Jul 1845; m. 23 May 1802, Milford, MA, Elijah King "of Providence".
x. Noah Jones, b. 21 Nov 1785; d. 14 Dec 1813, Milford, MA.
xi. Wiswall Jones, b. 22 Oct 1788; d. 8 Aug 1842, Charleston, SC; m. 19 Apr 1817, Savana, Jamaica, Martha W. Price. They lived at Charleston, SC, and had six children.
