Abel5 Whitney (Nathan4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Nathan4 and Lydia (Young) Whitney, was born 20 Aug 1734, Biddeford, ME,[1] died after 1791, Standish, ME.

Marriage intentions were published 16 Dec 1758, Falmouth, ME, for him and Thankful Morton "of Gorhamtown", daughter of Bryant and Thankful (Parker) Morton. She was born about 1739.

He lived in 1763 at Gorham, Maine.

Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolution, 17 Vols., Volume 17, page 205: Whitney, Abel, Gorham. Corporal, Capt. Sewall's Co., Col. Ebenezer Sprout's (12th) regt.; continental Army pay accounts for service from Jan. 1, 1777, to Aug. 12, 1777; reported discharged Aug. 12, 1777; also, Private, Capt. Josiah Jenkins's co., Col. Samuel Brewer's Regt.; subsistence allowed from date of enlistment, Jan. 1, 1777; credited with 77 rations; subsistence also allowed for 14 days travel on march to Bennington; also, same co. and regt.; return certified at Camp near Valley Forge, Jan. 23, 1778; residence, Gorham; enlisted for town of Gorham; mustered by Maj. Insley; reported discharged.

In Standish, he purchased land in 30-Acre Lot 18: Samuel and Enoch Freeman to Abel Whitney, August 20, 1792, 27/148.[2]
