Abel7 Whitney (Abel6, Aaron5, Moses4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of Abel6 and Clarissa (Dwight) Whitney, was born 15 Mar 1800, Westfield, MA,[1] was baptized 23 Mar 1800, Westfield, MA,[2] and died 5 Mar 1883, Lowell, MA, aged 83 years, of paralysis.[3]

He married firstly, 20 Oct 1838, Harpersfield, NY, Pamelia Babcock, daughter of John W. and Lois (-----) Babcock. She was born 13 Dec 1809, Granville, ME, and died 21 or 22 Jun 1849, Lowell, MA, aged 39 years 6 months 3 days, of consumption.[4]

He married secondly, 26 Sep 1850, Belinda Baxter Bliss, daughter of Jacob Bliss. She was born 5 Dec 1814, Washington, VT, or Chelsea, VT, and died 29 Jun 1895, aged 81 years, of old age.[5]

He was a bookseller with his son John, and was formerly in the wholesale flour business. He resided Lowell, MA.

i. John Abel8 Whitney, b. 6 Dec 1839, MA; d. aft. 1900, then unmarried; a bookseller in Lowell, MA.
ii. Clarissa Dwight Whitney, b. 24 Apr 1841, Dalton, MA; d. 13 Apr 1849, Lowell, MA, aged 6 years 11 months 20 days, of scarlet fever.[6]
iii. Edward Augustus Whitney, b. 24 Mar 1843. Edward A. spent three years in Europe in the study of geological engineering. Since 1872 he has been cashier of a national bank at West Union, IA; is now located at Sheridan, WY. For more information, see EDWARD A. WHITNEY, Sheridan's First and Foremost Benefactor.
iv. Mary Louisa Whitney, b. 10 Jun 1845; d. 29 Aug 1846, Lowell, MA, aged 14 months.[7]
