Abijah6 Whitney (Stephen5, John4, Benjamin3, John2, John1), son of Stephen5 and Relief (Stearns) Whitney, was born 10 Aug 1776, Watertown, MA,[1] and died 6 Dec 1859, Lunenburg or Leominster, MA, aged 83 years 4 months, of old age.[2]

Marriage intentions were published 3 Dec 1811, Lunenburg, MA, for him and Betsey7 Whitney "of Westminster".[3] Marriage intentions were published 14 Dec 1811, Westminster, MA, for him "of Lunenburg" and Betsey7 Whitney.[4] He married, 6 Feb 1812, Betsey7 Whitney, daughter of Jonas6 and Elizabeth (Raymond) Whitney, born 1 Apr 1788, Westminster, MA, and died 16 Nov 1872.

He was born in Watertown, where he passed his boyhood days. He worked on the farm, was interested in a country store and kept a toll gate. He finally settled in Lunenburg and carried on an extensive provisioning business, supplying three towns with meat. He was known the country round as "Uncle Bijah." During the latter part of his life he was in poor health and resided with his son, Francis W., at whose home he died in his 83d year. He died 6 Dec 1859; resided Lunenburg, MA.

iv. Joseph Whitney, b. 21 Feb 1823, Lunenburg, MA;[9] d. 19 Sep 1825, Lunenburg, MA, aged 2-1/2 years, of fever.[10]
v. Francis Wolfe Whitney, b. 15 Jul 1825, Lunenburg, MA;[11] m. Huldah B. Frost
vi. Mary Elizabeth Whitney, b. 19 Jul 1828, Lunenburg, MA;[12] m. Silas8 Whitney.
vii. Martha Cunningham Whitney, b. 6 Feb 1831, Lunenburg, MA;[13] d. 4 Oct 1885, Fitchburg, MA, aged 54 years 7 months 25 days, of phthisis pneumonia;[14] "of Leominster" m. 28 Oct 1856, Athol, MA, Seth Twitchell "of Fitchburg", as his second wife, son of William Twitchell.[15] Children:
