Alden Whitney (Ransford, Samuel), son of Ransford and Eunice (Parmenter) Whitney, was born about 1827, Oxford or Framingham, MA, and died after 1856.

He married, 26 May 1847, Grafton, MA, Lydia M. Gregory,[1] daughter of James and Diana (Tourtelotte) Gregory. She was born about 1826, Thompson, CT, and died after 1856.

Children of Alden and Lydia M. (Gregory) Whitney:

i. (daughter) Whitney, b. 19 May 1848, Grafton, MA [given name omitted];[2] d. 19 Jul 1848, Grafton, MA, aged 2 months, of disease of bowels.[3]
ii. Adelbert Whitney, b. ca. 1850, Grafton, MA; d. 8 Feb 1872, Mendon, MA, aged 21 years 4 months 20 days, of pulmonary consumption.[4]
iii. Diana F. Whitney, b. ca. 1853, MA; no record after 1855.
iv. James Walter Whitney, b. 20 Aug 1856, Sutton, MA;[5] d. 18 Nov 1890, Millbury, MA, aged 34 years 2 months 17 days, of intestinal obstruction;[6] unmarried; telegraph operator.
