Alexander P. Whitney (John, Edward), son of John and Mary (Grant) Whitney, was born about 21 Feb 1820, Falmouth, ME, and died 4 Apr 1873, Chester, VT, aged 53 years 1 month 13 days.[1]

He married firstly, before 1848, Hannah Cook. She was born about 1816, ME, and died about 1858, probably Falmouth, ME.

He married secondly, 8 Mar 1859, Roxbury, MA, Mary O'Donnell,[2] daughter of Thomas and Mary (Clara) O'Donnell. She was born about 1835, Ireland, and died after 1880. She married secondly, 23 Dec 1879, Springfield, VT, Thomas Madigan, son of Dennis and Nancy (McCarty) Madigan.[3]

ii. Sarah J. Whitney, b. ca. Oct 1849, West Falmouth, ME; "Jennie" d. 5 Jul 1926, Salem, NH; "Jennie" m. 24 Jun 1878, Portsmouth, NH, George W. Thornton,[4] b. NJ.
iii. Harriet E. Whitney, b. ca. 1852, ME.
iv. George Whitney, b. ca. 1853, ME. He may be the George Plummer Whitney, son of "Aleck and Sarah", b. Dec 1854, ME, who m.(1) bef. 1883, Carrie Goodman, and m.(2) 3 Jul 1886, Groton, MA, Nellie S. Dickinson, b. ca. 1864, Groton, MA, dau. of Joseph and Eliza (-----) Whitney.[5] Children:
a. Alvin Goodnow Whitney, b. 2 Mar 1883, Hamilton, ON; m. 28 Jul 1912, Washington, DC, Elsie Julia Gibson (1885–1970).
