Alfred7 Whitney (Alfred6, John5, Abraham4, Joseph3, John2, Henry1), son of Alfred6 and Naomi Smith (Gray) Whitney, was born 31 Dec 1836, Crease Street, below Girard Avenue, Philadelphia, PA, and died after 1900.

He married firstly, 4 Oct 1860, Holmesburgh, Philadelphia, PA, Achsah Deacon Dobbins, daughter of Daniel Brock and Mary Ann (Vansciver) Dobbins, of Holmesburgh. She was born 4 Oct 1839, at Budd Town, NJ, and died 16 Aug 1867, Delanco, NJ, and was buried in the cemetery of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Bridgeborough, NJ.

He married secondly, 27 Sep 1868, Camden, NJ, Amanda Pritchett, daughter of Lorenzo Dow and Anna (Phillips) Pritchett, of Smithville, NJ, formerly of Philadelphia. She was born 26 Jun 1838, Philadephia, PA, and died after 1880.

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a manufacturer of edge-tools . . . . They dwelt at Delanco till 1871; and then moved to Musconetcong, N.J., where they were living in June 1875. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, 18 Aug. 1864; took part in the battles of Fort Fisher, N.C., 23 to 25 Dec. 1864, and its reduction and capture, 13 to 15 Jan. 1865; Fort Anderson, on Cape fear River, 17 to 19 Feb. 1865; Fort Strong, 20 Feb. 1865; capture of Wilmington, N.C., 22 Feb. 1865; was ordered to James River, in March 1865, and remained at Dutch Gap till the capture of Richmand gave him the opportunity of visiting that city, in Ap. 1865; after which, he was with the squadron cruising off Havana, Cuba, till ordered to Fortress Monroe, and thence to Boston, Mass., where he was discharged, 17 June 1865."

ii. Georgiana Whitney, b. 21 Feb 1863; living 1880.
iii. Benjamin Naylor Whitney, b. 1 Nov 1864; d. 3 Nov 1864, Delanco, NJ, and was buried in the cemetery of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Bridgeborough, NJ.
iv. Naomi Whitney, b. 22 Mar 1866; living 1880.

Children of Alfred7 and Amanda (Pritchett) Whitney:

v. Lily May8 Whitney, b. 1 Aug 1873, Finesville, NJ; living 1880.
vi. Alfred Whitney, b. ca. 1877, NJ; living 1880.

Since Amanda is listed as "married", not "widowed", Alfred was still apparently alive at that time, but not living with his wife and children. He has not been found in the 1880 Census. Emeline was Amanda's sister.
