Family:Whitney, Alpheus (1794-1841)

Alpheus7 Whitney (Hananiah6, Samuel5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Hananiah6 and Azubah (Keyes) Whitney, was born 29 May 1794, Winchendon, MA.[1] He died 2 Oct 1841, Watertown, MA, aged 50 years, of consumption, pauper.[2]

He married, say 1823, Abigail Cox, daughter of Joseph and Abigail (Wyman) Cox. She was born about 1 Apr 1800, Waltham or Weston, MA, and died 25 Nov 1863, Dana, MA, aged 63 years 7 months 24 days, of consumption.[3] She married secondly, (int. 23 Aug 1845, Waltham, MA[4]) 9 Sep 1845, Dana, MA, Thomas Stimpson, widower, son of James and Sally (Bryant) Stimpson,[5] born 7 Sep 1764, Sudbury, MA, and died 7 Apr 1851, Dana, MA, aged 87 years, of old age.

i. Joseph Dana8 Whitney, b. ca. 28 Oct 1825, Winchendon or Watertown, MA; m. Sophronia Lucretia Bemis.
ii. George H.8 Whitney, b. ca. 29 Mar 1827, Waltham, MA;[6] m. Phila R. Fellows.
iii. Martha Ann Whitney, b. ca. 1829; d. 18 Jun 1886, Dana, MA; m. 8 Aug 1846, Dana, MA, James W. Stevens, b. ca. 1824, son of James and Mary Stevens.[7]
iv. Mary C. Whitney, b. ca. Apr 1832, Winchendon, MA; d. 27 Sep 1876, Greenwich, MA, aged 44 years 5 months, of consumption;[8] m.(1) 10 Jul 1851, Worcester, MA, Willard Woodis, b. ca. 1829, son of Mariot and Melinda (-----) Woodis;[9] apparently they were divorced; m.(2) 24 Mar 1875, Greenwich, MA, Lucius R. Blackimer, b. ca. 1819, Greenwich, MA, son of David and Sarah (-----) Blackimer.[10]

Notes

Abigail's maiden name was recorded as "Case" in one record, and "Wyman" (an error for her mother's maiden name) in son Joseph's marriage record.
