Archibald5 Whitney (Henry4, Josiah3, John2, Henry1), son of Henry4 and Eunice (Clark) Whitney, was born Mar 1780, Derby, CT, baptized 14 May 1780, Derby, CT, and died 18 or 28 Sep 1842, Derby, CT.

He married, 2 Sep 1801, New York, NY, Nancy Brower, daughter of Theophilus and Mary (Bogart) Brower. She was born 29 Jan 1785, New York, NY, and died 22 Nov 1869, Derby, CT [Phoenix] or Sep 1869, Derby, CT, aged 86 of old age.[1]

Phoenix says the following:

Archibald Whitney, b. at Derby, Conn., in March 1780; baptized in the Congregational Church at Derby, 14 May 1780; a wholesale grocer in New York City, where he married, 2 Sept 1801, Nancy Brower, dau. of Theophilus and Mary (Bogart) Brower, of New York, where she was born 29 Jan. 1785. In 1802, he formed a copartnership with Elijah Hurnphreys, which continued under the name of Humphreys and Whitney, until 1814. From 1816 to 1825, he was a partner with his nephew, Giles Marlborough Whitney, in the firm of A. & G. Whitney. The City Directory shows that his place of business was at 22 Burling Slip, 1802-8; at 175 Front Street 1809-10; at 169 Front Street 1811-14; at 35 Water Street, 1815; at 50 Front Street, 1816-19; and at 59 Front Street 1820-5; while he resided, in 1802-4, at 31 Frankfort Street; in 1805-9, at 43 Frankfort Street; in 1810, at 14 Vandewater Street; in 1811-14, at 23 Frankfort Street; in 1816-7, at 5 Bridge Street; and in 1818-24, at 17 Bridge Street. He then moved to Derby, where he died or apoplexy, 28 (gravestone and church record say, 18) Sept 1842, and was buried in the old Episcopal Cemetery. She joined the Congregational Church at Derby, 29 May 1831; the record calls her "Mrs. Ann Whitney". She died, 22 Nov. 1869, at Derby, and was buried near her husband.

i. Henry Whitney, b. 14 Nov 1802, New York, NY; m. Maria Frances Phillips.
ii. Maria Brower Whitney, b. 19 Feb 1804, New York, NY; bapt. and joined the Congregational Church in Derby, Conn., 5 Jun 1831; d. 12 Feb 1883, Birmingham, CT, aged 79 years;[2] "of Derby" m. 1 Dec 1840, Derby, CT, by Rev. Hollis Read, Congregational, Col. Josiah Mann "of New York City",[3] b. 6 Dec 1792, New York, NY, son of Asa and Hephzibah (Conant) Mann, of New York, and g. son of Thomas Mann. He died at his residence, 141 West Thirty-sixth Street, New York, 8 Feb 1873, in the 81st year of his age, and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery. She was living at Birmingham, CT, in Aug. 1874, without children.
iii. Alfred Whitney, b. 29 May 1806, New York, NY; d. 28 May 1839, Derby, CT, and was buried in the old Episcopal Cemetery; unmarried.
iv. Archibald Whitney, b. 19 Apr 1808, New York, NY; d. 10 Jan 1849, Derby, CT, and was buried there, in the old Episcopal Cemetery; unmarried.
v. Thomas Vose Whitney, b. 15 Aug 1810, New York, NY; d. m. 13 Mar 1842, Birmingham, CT, Nancy Morgan Powe,[4] dau. of Major Powe, late of Derby, Conn., where she was born 4 Oct. 1819. He died at Ansonia, Conn., of apoplexy, 15 May 1873. A local paper said: "Mr. Whitney was a citizen of Derby for fifty years, and well known in all this region; and his sudden death will be deeply lamented by our whole community." Their children all died in infancy, before being named.
vi. Ann Eliza Whitney, b. 15 Mar 1813, New York, NY; m. 23 Nov 1836, Derby, CT, Peter Perry Phelps.[5]

viii. Jane Alida Whitney, b. 15 Nov 1818, New York, NY; was living at Birmingham, Conn., in 1880, unmarried.

x. Theophilus Brower Whitney, b. 5 Nov 1824, Derby, CT; d. 4 Apr 1825, Derby, CT, and was buried there.
xi. John Dore Whitney, b. 25 May 1827, Derby, CT; m. Mary Frances Parrott.
