Augustus Granville⁸ Whitney (Calvin⁷, Orlando⁶, James⁵, [prob.] James⁴, Eleazer³, Thomas², John¹), son of Calvin⁷ and Rosalinda (Parker) Whitney, was born 14 Feb 1820, St. Johnsbury, VT,^[1] and died 21 May 1861, Burke, VT.

He married firstly, 18 May 1842, Burke, VT, Louisa Maria Jenkins, daughter of Jonathan and Mary (-----) Johnson. She was born 16 Jun 1818, St. Johnsbury, VT, and died 10 Jun 1894, Bethlehem, NH. She married secondly, Simeon B. Johnson.^[2] She married thirdly, 25 Nov 1873, NH, Enoch M. Stratton.^[3] They were divorced 26 Mar 1880, Bethlehem, NH.

He married secondly, 16 Nov 1849, Nashville, NH, Mary Ann Chaffin.^[4]

ii.	Emma Louisa Whitney, b. 29 Jan 1848 (twin), Kirby, VT;[7] d. 9 May 1849, Kirby, VT.
iii.	Stella Aurelia Whitney, b. 29 Jan 1848 (twin), Kirby, VT;[8] d. 1936, Bristol, NH; m.(1) 4 Mar 1871, Manchester, NH, George Taylor; m.(2) 26 Feb 1876, Bethlehem, NH, George Beede.
iv.	Charles Oscar Whitney, b. 27 Feb 1854, Lyndon, VT;[9] m. 11 Oct 1873, Manchester, NH, Martha Ann "Mattie" Stratton.

Notes

There is a record of a Granville A. Whitney who married, 16 Nov 1849, Nashville, NH, Mary Ann Chaffin.^[10] She was born about 23 Mar 1831, Unity, NH, daughter of Lyman and Patience (Hale) Chaffin, and died 12 Apr 1894, Boston, MA, aged 63 years 19 days, of paralysis. If this is the same person, that second marriage would have been bigamous. If that had been discovered, it would explain why Mary Ann Chaffin married secondly, 14 May 1850, Milo Smith.
