Benjamin F.7 Whitney (Moses6, Daniel5, Daniel4, Henry3, John2, Henry1), son of Joseph6 and Phebe (Schoonover) Whitney, was born 19 Sep 1815, IN, and died 26 Aug 1892. He was buried in Park Cemetery, Fairmount, IN.[1]
He married, 6 Jan 1838, Rebecca Jane Jones. She was born about 1817, PA, and died 11 Apr 1900. She was buried in Park Cemetery, Fairmount, IN.[2]
Obituary from the Elwood Daily Record, Elwood, Madison Co., IN, 12 Apr 1900, page 1: ":AN AGED LADY PASSED AWAY ":MRS. REBECCA WHITNEY DIED LAST EVENING. ":WAS EIGHTY-FIVE YEARS OLD ":AND THE MOTHER OF BEN D. WHITNEY ":FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT THE HOUSE SATURDAY. ":Another aged pioneer, probably one of the oldest inhabitants of Elwood, passed away last evening. Mrs. Rebacca Whitney, aged 85 passed to her reward at the home of her son, Ben D. Whitney with whom she has made her home since the death of her husband a few years ago. ":Mrs. Whitney had a large number of friends in this city who will sincerely regret to learn of her demise. Owing to her advanced age she had been in failing health for some time and infirmities attendant upon on age are given as the cause of her death. ":Funeral services will be held at the family residence Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, but pending the arrival of relatives from the southeastern part of the state all the details have not been arranged. The remains will be taken to Fairmount on a special car over the interurban leaving here at 1:20 Saturday afternoon, and laid to rest beside those of he husband in the cemetery there."
