Family:Whitney, Betty (1718-1798)

Betty⁴ Whitney (Henry³, John², Henry¹), daughter of Henry³ and Elizabeth (Olmstead) Whitney, was born 7 Nov 1718, Ridgefield, CT,^[1] and died 13 Oct 1798, Ridgefield, CT, aged 79 years 11 months 6 days.

She married, 25 Jan 1741/2, Ridgefield, CT, Daniel Smith,^[2] son of Ebenezer and Sarah (Collins) Smith. He was born 6 Oct 1719, Ridgefield, CT, and died 22 Aug 1799, Ridgefield, CT, aged 80 years.

Phoenix says the following:

Betty Whitney, b. at Ridgefield, Conn., 7 Nov. 1718; married, 25 Jan. 1741/2, at Ridgefield, Daniel Smith, son of Ebenezer and Sarah (Collins) Smith, of Ridgefield, where he was born 6 Oct 1719. They settled in Ridgefield, and there died; she, 13 Oct. 1798, "aged 79 years, 11 months, and 6 days"; he, 22 Aug. 1799, "aged 80 years." In the record of her death, he was called "Daniel Smith, 2d," and in that of his death, "Mr. Daniel Smith."

Children of Daniel and Betty⁴ (Whitney) Smith:

i.	Abigail Smith, b. 17 Feb 1742/3, Ridgefield, CT; m.(1) Daniel Worden; m.(2) Ebenezer Rockwell.
ii.	Betty Smith, b. 15 Aug 1745, Ridgefield, CT; m. ----- Dykeman, settled in Dutchess Co., NY, and there died.
iii.	Molly Smith, b. 23 Oct -----, Ridgefield, CT; the year is worn away from the record, which calls her "daughter of Daniel and Betty Smith," but contains no other mention of this household, leaving nothing to fix her place in the family. Perhaps she was that Molly Smith who died at Ridgefield, 4 Aug. 1832, aged 83 years.
iv.	Daniel Smith, b. 9 Sep 1748, Ridgefield, CT; m.(1) Rachel Perlee; m.(2) Esther Crane.
v.	Benajah Smith, b. 9 Oct 1749, Ridgefield, CT; m. Mary Betts.
vi.	Anne Smith, b. 16 Mar 1752, Ridgefield, CT; m. ----- Burton; settled in Dutchess Co., NY, and there died.
vii.	Job Smith, b. 3 Nov 1754, Ridgefield, CT; m. Esther Benedict.
viii.	Nehemiah Smith, b. 3 Jan 1757, Ridgefield, CT; unmarried; a soldier in the Revolutionary War, was captured, and died on the Jersey prison-ship.
ix.	Sarah Smith, b. 4 Sep 1759, Ridgefield, CT; m. 8 Jan 1784, Ridgefield, CT, Ephraim Clark. They settled at Pompey, NY, where she died in Ap. 1847. Her descendants, it is said, still lived at Pompey in 1874; but nothing has been learned of them, except that one granddaughter married a Mr. Crandall, of Rochester, NY.
