Charles Henry Whitney (John H.}, son of John H. and Celia A. (Long) Whitney, was born 13 Mar 1850, Portland, ME, and died 28 Jul 1900, Boston, MA, aged 51 years 4 months 15 days, of cause unknown.[1]

He married, 2 Nov 1879, New York, NY, Ellen Good, daughter of Samuel and Ellen (Verdeaux) Good. She was born say 1852, Laconia, NH, or Ireland, or Camden [?ME?], or Jul 1859, London, England, or Portland, ME, and died after 1915.

In 1880 he was an ironworker, living at 1 Cortes St., Boston. In 1882 and 1884 he was a tinsmith living at 156 Castle St., Boston. In 1886 he was a barber living at 34 Dover St., Boston. In 1892 he was a tinsmith living at 366 Tremont St., Boston. In 1897 he was a tinsmith living at 14 Bond St. In 1900 he was a tinsmith and foreman, living on Church St., Boston.

On 2 Aug 1910, widow Ellen Whitney filed from Massachusetts a claim for a pension based on her husband Charles H. Whitney's service in the Civil War, Co. H, 13th Maine Infantry, and Co. H, 30th Maine Infantry. The application number was 724,199, and the certificate number was 511,368.

iii. Percival Cleveland Whitney, b. 6 Feb 1884, Boston, MA;[5] d. 8 Nov 1918, New York, NY; m. Thyra Magdalena Speilberg.
iv. Edith M. Whitney, b. 17 Sep 1886, Boston, MA [given name omitted];[6] d. aft. 1910.
v. Charles Russell Whitney, b. 11 Oct 1892, Boston, MA;[7] d. aft. 1910.
vi. Marion Estelle Whitney, b. 26 Jun 1897, Boston, MA;[8] d. 28 Aug 1994, Cambridge, MA; m. Russell F. Ryan.

Notes

He may or may not be the same as Charles Henry Whitney (s1845-?). Both were born in Portland, ME, about the same time. If so, Ellen Good was a second wife, and Mattie/Millie a first wife.
