Charles L.8 Whitney (Alanson7, Samuel6, David5, Matthias4, Cornelius3, Joshua2, John1), son of Alanson7 Delaney (Young) Whitney, was born 11 Sep 1876, IA, and died 19 Dec 1956, Mason City, IA.

He married firstly, 25 Dec 1900, Bremer Co., IA, Etta May Jordan. She was born 1879, and died 1923.

He married secondly, 12 Nov 1925, Cerro Gordo Co., IA, Mabel A. (Gage) Bartholomew, daughter of Warren F. and Belle (Woodhouse) Gage. She was born 2 Jan 1882, and died 2 Sep 1954. She had married firstly, 10 Jun 1903, Mason City, IA, Dexter S. C. Bartholomew.

All the children say their mother's name was May Jordan.

1910 census Charles and May are living and farming in Lafayette twp, Bremer Co, IA. WWI draft registration: Charles Earnest Whitney, RFD New Hartford twp, Bremer Co, Iowa. Age 40, born Nov. 17, 1877. Self employed farmer. Nearest relative: Minnie Whitney, RFD New Hartford, Bremer Co, Iowa. Medium height, medium build, blue eyes, dark brown hair. Signed Sept. 12, 1918 Allison, Iowa. By 1920 they have moved to Union twp, Cerro Gordo, IA where Charles is farming. May is now enumerated Etta May. Etta May must have died between 1920 and 1930 as in the 1930 census for Mason City, Cerro Gordo Co, IA, Charles is now married to Mabel. Living in the household is Charles' daughter Alice and Mabel's daughters Lucile, Madeline and Madge Bartholomew. Charles is working as a machinist for a cement factory. 1925 Iowa state census for Mason City, Cerro Gordo, IA. Charles, 42, is widowed.
