Daniel5 Whitney (James4, John3, Jonathan2, John1), son of Dea. James4 and Elizabeth (Holbrook)(Twitchell) Whitney, was born 13 Dec 1733, Sherborn, MA,[1] was baptized 10 Dec 1733, Sherborn, MA,[2] and "Hon." "Esq." died 6 Apr 1810, Sherborn, MA, aged 76 years.[3]

Daniel married, 11 Jun 1761, Sherborn, MA, Miriam Leland,[4] daughter of Daniel and Mary (Death) Leland. She was born 1 Sep 1740, Sherborn, MA, and died 31 Dec 1817, Sherborn, MA, aged 77 years.[5]

Pierce says the following:[6]

Hon. Daniel WHITNEY was one of the most prominent citizens in Sherborn. He was selectman 1784-64-9-90-1-2 3-5-1800-1-2-3; town clerk in 1773; town clerk and treasurer from 1775 to 1781; was representative to the Continental Congress 1775-6; member of the convention to revise the state constitution in 1780; representative 1781-3-4-5-8-9-91-2-4-5-6-8-9-1800-1-3. In 1788 Daniel WHITNEY, Esq., of Sherborn, was the delegate to the convention for the purpose of ratifying the constitution by Massachusetts. It was held in Boston from Jan. 9 to Feb. 9, 1788.

He left a will dated 15 Jul 1809 Sherborn, MA; of Sherburne, Esq.; wife Miriam; son Aaron; daughters Elizabeth Clark and Mary Bullard; three grandsons Daniel White Whitney, Amos Whitney and William Scot Whitney; sons-in-law William Clark and John Bullard; witnesses Tapley Wyeth, James Bullard and Andrew Bullard. On 27 Apr 1810, Sherborn, MA, his inventory was taken by Tapley Wyeth, Calvin Sanger, and Nathan Grout. On 10 Jun 1810, Stow, MA, Aaron Whitney of Sherborn was named executor. On 19 Jun 1810, Sherborn, MA, the will of Daniel Whitney of Sherborn was presented by Aaron Whitney of Sherborn, and proved by Tapley Wyeth, James Bullard, and Andrew Bullard.

She left a will dated 4 Sep 1812, Sherborn, MA; will of Miriam Whitney of Sherburne; son Aaron Whitney, $5 with two coats of arms, one of them by the name of Whitney and the other by the name of Leland; three grandsons Daniel White Whitney, Amos Whitney, and William Scott Whitney, children of the late son Daniel Whitney, deceased; two daughters Elizabeth Clark and Mary Bullard; son-in-law Willliam Clark, executor; witnesses, Calvin Sanger, Anna Sanger, Joseph Sanger. On 10 Feb 1818, Sherborn, MA, her will was proved.
