Daniel Butler⁸ Whitney (James⁷, Jeremiah⁶, Hezekiah⁵, Hezekiah⁴, Joseph³, John², Henry¹), son of James⁷ and Sally Ann (Coutant) Whitney, was born 7 Apr 1831, Esopus, NY, and died 28 May 1902, Wappingers Falls, NY.

He married 10 Feb 1853, New York, NY, Mary Jane Traver, daughter of Henry A. and Leah (Kipp) Traver. She was born 5 Jul 1833, Esopus, NY, and died 14 Jan 1919, Wappingers Falls, NY.

He was a carpenter and builder. They dwelt in New York City; at Poughkeepsie, NY, till 1 Sep 1855; in Illinois, most of the time at Auburn, till Oct 1859; and then returned to Poughkeepsie. They were living at Wappinger's Falls, NY, in Oct 1874.
