Ebenezer Whitney, ([perhaps] Samuel4, John3, Benjamin2, John1), parentage unproven, perhaps son of Samuel4 and Lydia (Spooner) Whitney, was born circa 1745, died 15 Aug 1810, North Esk, Northumberland County, NB, Canada, and was buried 15 Aug 1810, Wilson's Point, Newcastle, NB, Canada.

He married, 17 Jan 1769, Sheffield, NB, Canada, Huldah Mooers, daughter of Peter and Mary (Howes) Mooers. She was born 24 Jun 1751, Rowley, Essex Co., MA, and died 6 Jul 1815, North Esk, Northumberland County, NB, Canada.

Ebenezer Whitney lived at NB, Canada. He and Huldah Mooers were married 17 January 1769 at Sheffield, on the Saint John river near Fredericton. The first reference located to Ebenezer after his marriage is to his employment in the masting industry near Maugerville in 1782. They moved to the Miramichi about 1786-87. Ebenezer petitioned the new Province of N.B. from Burton concerning a minor land matter on 25 May 1785, at which time he was recognized as an 'Old Settler' (pre-Loyalist). In the same year, according to a statement of his, in a petition filed in 1805, Ebenezer and his son-in-law Jeremiah Travis bought Lots 5 and 6, respectively, (later became Whitney) from the Wiliam Davidson Estate on 1 October 1796. These lots are just east of the Curtis Rd. in Whitney, N.B., Canada.

Notes

Recent DNA results from two of Ebenezer's descendants has shown that he was almost certainly a descendant of the immigrant John Whitney.
