Family:Whitney, Elnathan (1742-1820)

Elnathan⁵ Whitney (Elnathan⁴, Eleazar³, Thomas², John¹), son of Elnathan⁴ and Sarah (Perry) Whitney, was born 18 Mar 1741/2, Waltham, MA,^[1] and died 4 Jun 1820, Goffstown, NH.

Elnathan married, 7 Mar 1784, Manchester, MA, "Mrs." Lucy (Allen) Story,^[2] daughter of Jacob and Sarah (Lee) Allen. She was born 3 Nov 1751, Manchester, MA, and died 29 Dec 1829, Goffstown, NH. She married firstly, 7 Apr 1771, Manchester, MA, (Capt.) Nehemiah Story. He was born 26 Feb 1749, Ipswich, MA, son of Nehemiah and Sarah (Gould) Story, and died before 1784.

On 14 Apr 1760, Waltham, MA, Jonas Dix, yeoman, of Waltham, was appointed guardian of Elnathan and Sarah, minor children of Elnathan Whitney late of Waltham, over 14 years, and posted bond, with Jonas Smith, Jr., surety.

Pierce says the following:^[3]

He was born in Waltham and during the Revolutionary war was in the Newton, MA, company, and also served under Capt. BARNARD in the Watertown company; subsequently he resided in Manchester, MA. In 1789 he moved to Goffstown, NH, where he purchased a farm of Gen. John STARK, who had previously purchased it of Abram OUTHOUT, of Albany, NY. It then comprised 500 acres, and the sum paid for it was £255 lawful money. Mr. WHITNEY was a baker by trade, but he never followed it after moving to Goffstown.

iv.	Elnathan Whitney, b. 4 Apr 1791, Goffstown, NH;[8] m. Lydia Stickney.
v.	Lydia Whitney, b. 20 Feb 1793, Goffstown, NH;[9] m. 30 Sep 1810, Goffstown, NH, Isaac Flanders.[10]
