Enoch6 Whitney (Moses5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Moses5 and Mary (Page) Whitney, was born 8 Apr 1773, Gorham, ME,[1] and died 1 May 1857 or 20 May 1857, Brownfield, ME.[2]

Marriage intentions were published, 2 Jun 1792, Gorham, ME, for him and his first wife, Hannah Newcomb,[3] daughter of John and Abigail (Young) Newcomb. She died 1824.

He married secondly, 1 Oct 1822 (int. 15 Sep 1822), Harrison, ME, widow "Mrs." Mary (-----) Kendall.[4] She was mother of Ned Kendall, celebrated cornet player [he was Edward, son of Edward and Mary (-----) Kendall, born 1808, Newport, RI, and died 1861, Boston, MA; Edward, Sr., was born in Portsmouth, NH, and Mary was born in Newport, RI].

He married thirdly, [said 14 Apr 1833 or] 17 Feb 1833, Brownfield, ME, "Mrs." Abigail (Ricker) Dennett.[5] She was born about 1773, and died after 1850. Abigail Ricker married firstly, 17 Mar 1793, Berwick, ME, Hunkin Dennett.

He resided in Standish, Buxton, and moved to Harrison, ME, in 1810. His ten children were born by his first wife. He resided Standish and Harrison, ME.

Pierce stated that he also resided in Livingston, ME. Because of the proximity of the other locations he resided, this was probably a misread of Limington, York Co., ME.

ii. Mary Whitney, b. say 1796; "of Raymond" m. 11 Nov 1830, Harrison, ME, William Decker "of Raymond", of Casco, ME. They are buried in the Green Grove Cemetery in Casco, ME.
iii. Freeman Whitney, b. 9 Mar 1800; m. Mary S. Gray.
iv. Eli Whitney, b. ca. 1803; m. Ann Hartford.
v. Eunice Whitney, b. 30 May 1807; d. 29 Aug 1856, Buxton, ME; m. 4 Mar or May 1824, Harrison, ME or Buxton, ME, Simon Newcomb, the son of Simon and Sally (Moody) Newcomb of Buxton, ME; resided Harrison, ME. He was b. 6 Jun 1803, Buxton, ME, and d. Sep 1890. He m.(2) 1857, Mary Richards, by whom he had eight further children. Children:
a. James Ross Newcomb, b. 26 Jun 1824; he was a carpenter and carriage maker; m. 1 Dec 1849, Mary G. Rand, dau. of Henry and Hannah Rand; moved to Monroe, ME, and settled there; Children:

b. Andrew Hobson Newcomb, b. 20 Jun 1826; was a carpenter; m.(1) Eliza F. Evans, who d. 1859. He m.(2) 1 Jan 1865, Hannah Chadbourne, dau. of Joseph and Hannah W. (-----) Chadbourne; res. in Newburyport, MA.
c. Susanna Carsley Newcomb, b. 6 Dec 1829; m.(1) Calvin Dawes, who d. 1860; m.(2) Warren Purington; m.(3) 1870, Lowell V. Foster. Children:

d. Eleazer Whitney Newcomb, b. 16 Oct 1831; he was a carpenter; m. 28 Apr 1856, Ellen Brown, dau. of James and Ruth (Wentworth) Brown of Brownfield, ME; lived in Brownfield and Harrison. He served as a private in Co. B, 23d Me. Inf. in the Civil War, from Sept. 29, 1862 to Jul 13, 1863; he lived in Marblehead, MA, in 1865; Chicago, 1868; Plattsmouth, NE, 1869, and has been since in Soldiers' Home, Los Angeles, CA.
e. Abigail Lewis Newcomb, b. Mar. 16, 1833; d. Apr 1869; married Albert Bassett of Amesbury, MA. Children:
