Ezra5 Whitney (James4, John3, Jonathan2, John1), son of Dea. James4 and Martha (Rice) Whitney, was born 22 Feb 1729/30, Sherborn, MA,[1] and died 24 Sep 1804, Woodstock, CT, in 75th year.[2]

Ezra married firstly, 14 Feb 1754, Sherborn, MA Mercy Morse,[3] daughter of Obadiah and Mercy (Walker) Morse. She was born 2 Mar 1735, Sherborn, MA,[4] and died 23 Sep 1794, Uxbridge, MA, in her 59th year.[5]

Marriage intentions were published 8 Nov 1795, Uxbridge, MA, for him and Ruth (Reed) Knapp "of Douglas".[6] He "Esq." "of Uxbridge" married secondly, 28 or 29 Nov 1795, Douglas, MA, Ruth (Reed) Knapp,[7] daughter of John and Dorothy (Pinneo) Reed. She was born 20 Nov 1747, Taunton, MA,[8] and died 11 Oct 1811, Douglas, MA, aged 64 years.[9] She had married firstly, before 1795, Capt. Job Knapp.[10]

Pierce says the following:[11]

He was in the Revolutionary war, in the company from Douglass, commanded by Capt. WALLIS.

v. James Whitney, b. 15 Dec 1764, Mendon, MA;[17] m.(1) Ruth Knapp; m.(2) Mary Robinson; m.(3) Clarissa Gould.
vi. Marcy Whitney, b. 27 Jan 1768, Douglas, MA;[18] m. "of Douglas" (int. 10 Jun 1792, Uxbridge, MA[19]) 10 Jan 1793, Douglas, MA, Samuel Reed, Jr., "of Uxbridge".[20]
vii. John Whitney, b. 26 Nov 1769, Douglas, MA;[21] possibly d. Feb 1824, Georgetown, KY. He was insane. He graduated 1797 A.B. from Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH.
viii. Mary Whitney, b. 12 Jun 1773, Douglas, MA;[22] d. before 12 Jun 1776.
ix. Mary Whitney, b. 12 Jun 1776, Douglas, MA.[23] She was probably the Molly Whitney who m. 4 Oct 1796, Wrentham, MA, Luther Follet "of Cumberland" [RI].[24]
x. Micah Whitney, b. 26 May 1778, Douglas, MA;[25] d. 12 Feb 1795, Uxbridge, MA.[26]

Ezra5 and Ruth (Reed)(Knapp) Whitney had no children.
