Floyd Eli Whitney (James, William), son of James and Abigail (Ormsby) Whitney, was born 25 Aug 1825, Clayton, NY, and died 17 Mar 1794, Clayton, NY. He was buried in Old Depauville Cemetery, Clayton, NY.[1]

He married, about 1845, Cynthia M. Barrows,daughter of Oliver and Miriam (Wilkie) Barrows. She was born 21 Jul 1822, Adams, NY, and died 6 Jan 1903, Clayton, NY.[2] She was buried in Old Depauville Cemetery, Clayton, NY.[3]

"A fatal runaway accident occurred four miles from Clayton a few days ago. The victim being Floyd Whitney. He was engaged in exercising a young horse, when it became refractory and ran away, carrying the cart and rider over a stone wall. He was seeming to reel and his family hurried out to meet him. At their approach he fell unconscious, and was carried to the house, when it as found that his skull was badly fractured. He was unconscious and died within a few hours. Whether he received the wound while going over the fence or whether the horse kicked him is not known, as there were no witnesses to the accident. The deceased was 68 years old and leaves a wife and 7 children. The latter are Luther, Lucian, William. Charles, Martin, Gilbert,
