Francis Alexander8 Whitney (Ohio7, Silas6, Samuel5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Ohio7 and Mary (Bolton) Whitney, was born 2 Aug 1823, Ashburnham, MA,[1] and died 28 Apr 1887, Ashburnham, MA, aged 63 years. of heart and dropsy.[2]

He married firstly, 6 Jan 1852, Fitchburg, MA, Lucy Matilda Lane, daughter of Elias and Anna (Jones) Lane.[3] She was born 30 Jun 1829, Ashburnham, MA, and died 16 Aug 1861, Ashburnham, MA, aged 32 years 1 month 17 days, of chronic diarrhea.[4]

He married secondly, 9 Sep 1862, Ashburnham, MA [also Fitchburg, MA], Sarah Ingraham Watkins, adopted daughter of Jehiel and Priscilla (-----) Watkins,[5] and daughter of Henry and Sally (Watkins) Ingraham. She was born 1840, Chester, VT,[6] and died 15 Sep 1889, Ashburnham, MA, aged 49, of paralysis of throat.[7]

Francis A. Whitney is a successful and progressive farmer in Ashburnham. He was for many years a teacher in the public schools and member of the school committee; has been assessor and selectman and trustee of the Cushing academy. He occupies an advanced position among his townsmen; resided Ashburnham, MA.

ii. Walter Henry Whitney, b. 28 Jan 1868, Ashburnham, MA,[11] or 30 Jun 1868 [per Pierce]; d. 17 Aug 1869, aged 1 of cholera.[12]
iii. Henry I. Whitney, b. 7 Nov 1871, Ashburnham, MA [given name omitted] [7 Nov 1872 per Pierce];[13] d. 17 Jun 1881, Ashburnham, MA, aged 9 years 7 months 10 days, of diptheria.[14]
iv. Winthrop W. Whitney, b. 17 Jun 1874, Ashburnham, MA;[15] m. 4 Nov 1907, Boston, MA, Mary A. (Pate) McAfee, b. ca. 1867, St. John, NB, dau. of George and Eliza (Hill) Pate.[16] The marriage date was also recorded in Lynn, MA, as 6 Nov 1907.[17] She had m.(1) ----- McAfee, from whom she was divorced.
