Hammond Moore9 Whitney (Asa Hammond8, Asa7, Elisha6, Elijah5, Daniel4, John3, John2, John1), son of Asa Hammond8 and Laura Leffingwell (Henshaw) Whitney, was born 28 Jul 1851, Hampton, VA, and died after 1910.

He married, 13 Nov 1879, Boston, MA, Catherine Howard Reed, daughter of Edward and Catherine (Howard) Reed.[1] She was born 26 Apr 1854, Boston, MA, and died after 1910.

He was born in Hampton, VA, 28 Jul 1851. Moved to New York, 1855, and to Newtown about 1857 and to Cambridge, MA, at the death of his father in 1859. In 1862 he went to live with an aunt, on a farm at Leicester, MA, attending the Leicester Military academy two winters, and working on the farm at other times, until 1865, when the family moved to Lancaster, MA, where he continued to work on a farm, except in winter, until 1867, when he went to work in a cotton mill, and continued there until 1869, when he went to Oxford, MA, and worked in a woolen mill until early in 1870, when he went to Boston and went to work in a wholesale paper store, where he remained until 1885, at which time he became connected with one of the oldest paper manufacturing concerns in the country, and in 1889 was made vice-president, which office he now holds. He served in the state militia six years; resided 39 Carlton St., Brookline, MA.
